The title, many would be surprised. The capital of Argentina is not exactly the paradise of transport or by order or by its fluidity. And maybe the bikes are one of the last links in the scale of those who rule the streets. However, there are timid attempts to assign a privileged place for bike rides around the city. And above all, a huge number of citizens seeking to secure this means of transport in the city.
A group of citizens summoned through a blog (masacriticabsas) meets the first Sunday of each month at the obelisk with a basic charge: to get a bike. It is the revenge of the poor traffic. But there are promising initiatives: new bike lanes, bike rentals, nature walks and dozens of neighborhoods to discover pedaling.
Buenos Aires, 25 kilometers of bicycle paths sum or bike lanes, opened a few months ago. On the website of the city government of Buenos Aires is a detailed map of bike paths and bike lanes preference, which can be explored in detail. There’s even a series of stations where you can withdraw a free bicycle for two hours (Bicing in Buenos Aires), or to agencies that propose a daring nighttime tour through Buenos Aires.
There are also some websites that are responsible for relieving the different tracks on bike paths available in the city including the so-called preferential lanes. For example, in the course Interparques, about 20 miles, come to light many details to be improved: carelessness on the boundary or the state of the paths, but also cars that do not respect the exclusive spaces, or pedestrians that are interspersed with trails in park areas.
Buenos Aires has a lot to improve cycling culture in the city. Still, the adventure of touring the city by bike, worth it and we can provide enriching experiences in a long walk, enjoying the most environmentally friendly means of transport in the world.
