the manzanares pederizaThe Pederiza (from the Latin “petra” meaning “stone”) is a set of fantastic shapes and structures sculpted by nature, one of the most amazing performances that can be felt by humans. These granite rocks, pink, formed 300 million years ago erosion, gullies, hills give this place of singular characteristics.

It is located 50 miles north of Madrid, in the Sierra de Guadarrama, which is reached by Manzanares el Real. It is part of the Regional Park Cuenca Alta del Manzanares, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve protected area by the Community of Madrid.

The Pedriza, also called the reference Pederiza Manzanares River Manzanares around the place, has a Mediterranean climate, humid with temperatures varying between summer (super dry) and winter (very cold) and that change depending on the height (more altitude cold and strong winds).

Besides the natural beauty of the landscape Pederiza also can appreciate cultural buildings of historical interest, such as Catillo de Manzanares. Located in the town of Manzanares el Real, the fortress of the Middle Ages, S. XV, is a very elaborate building open to be visited by the public.

The municipality of Manzanares el Real, on the basis of Pederiza, is a resort where there are a variety of travel services, including restaurants, lodging, and from there you can take several paths to hiking trails.
