How to Visit an Estancia in Argentina

If you’re an outdoorsy type and are planning a trip to South America, you just might want to visit an estancia in Argentina. An estancia is a large ranch, and many in Argentina date back to colonial times.

There are numerous estancias that take in paying guests, offering guest rooms, meals, horseback riding and sometimes other amenities found at hotels, such as massages and swimming pools.

Estancias to Visit in Argentina

1. Visit Dos Talas Estancia. This estancia, located just two hours from Buenos Aires, is a wonderful place to relax, with gaucho guided horseback rides and swims in the large pool being the main activities.

The house was built in the 1890s and retains the ambience of yesteryear, down to period furnishings and facilities. Guests appreciate the friendliness of the proprietors and enjoy the fresh, tasty food. All meals are included in the price.

2. Head to El Metejon Polo Estancia. If you love to play polo, then this is the estancia for you. Less than an hour from Buenos Aires, El Metejon is a good choice if you plan to visit the city but prefer to stay in the country.

The estancia offers tastefully decorated rooms and amenities such as massages, horseback rides around the ranch and plenty of delicious food. However, polo is the main draw to this estancia, which has three practice fields, more than 100 horses to choose from, polo lessons and daily practice games.

3. Stay at the Estancia Colome in Argentina’s Salta province. Those hoping to get away from it all will appreciate the estancia’s remote location. There is a vineyard on site that makes for beautiful scenery, and guests can opt to take a tour of the winery.

4. Go to El Cencerro Estancia. El Cencerro is another estancia located within an hour’s drive of Buenos Aires. There’s a swimming pool, volleyball and soccer courts, horseback riding and more.

Guests keep coming back for the friendly atmosphere and great food available here, such as barbecue and homemade pasta. What’s more, El Cencerro is less expensive than similar estancias.
