The Ibera marshes and ponds and their ecosystems that compose them are, without doubt, one of the richest biological areas in Argentina. Approximately 20 to 30% of the Esteros del Ibera Provincial Reserve consists of lagoons. There are over sixty who, together with estuaries and marshes, causing an atmosphere of high humidity, which resulted in the creation of a remarkable diversity of animal and plant species. Among the vegetables are Ombúes, Lapachos, jacaranda, Ceibos, Sauces, Espinillos, Yatai palms, and floating plants like Irupé, pond lilies, the sprouts and duckweed. Among the fauna are large reptiles as Jacare, rodents such as the coypu and capybara (the largest rodent in the world), marsh deer, howler monkey or the Howler, Chico Grey Fox, Bobcat, Armadillo Black or Tatu, Ferrets addition, Hares, Weasels, Vizcachas, Boas, Cascabel, Yarará, etc. There are also hundreds of species of birds and many insects, including butterflies are beautiful and varied.
It is located near the town of Mercedes (125 km.) And the small village of Colonia Carlos Pellegrini (in reserve), both located in Corrientes and infrastructure for tourism.
